EDITORIAL
We have reached the fifth edition of O Meu Primeiro FITEI. In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, we decided to take a risk with this new format. A festival dedicated to younger audiences but also to all those who don't usually go to the theatre, trying to break down barriers so that accessibility becomes a reality in cultural activities, in a work of mediation and proximity, both programmatically and artistically.
In this year of celebration, we are delighted to host the last meeting of the large-scale network funded by the Creative Europe: Connect Up! programme, which involves 10 European countries and which this year extends to non-European countries, such as those represented in O Meu Primeiro FITEI, Brazil, the Philippines and the USA, with a Hawaiian show.
We got ready for the party and in this edition we have 7 shows, 4 Portuguese and 3 international, and we've added two new venues, Teatro de Belomonte and Palácio do Bolhão, in addition to the already returning and important partners, Coliseu Porto AGEAS and Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery. Most of these 7 shows are aimed at the 12+ age group, as our focus on this age group has been a reality and this European project is centred on this group, but we are also presenting two shows for the 6+ age group and another for babies, thus achieving the diversity we have presented in previous editions.
For the 6+ age group, don't miss O Duelo e Outras Histórias by Teatro do Bolhão and Joana Providência, the play Sophia by Ana Bento / Gira Sol Azul and the show NiNHO for children aged 3 months to 3 years by Som do Algodão, by Dulce Moreira and Mariana Santos.
For teenagers and their families, Teatro de Marionetas do Porto presents Orfeu e Eurídice, directed by Roberto Merino, and Teatro o Bando and LUME from Brazil present Benfazeja, based on the short story of the same name by João Guimarães Rosa, directed by Suzana Branco.
From Hawaii, in collaboration with Italy's European partner, comes PÄ€ KA MAKANI by Lokomaika'i Lipscomb and Annie Cusick Wood.
And also Firewall, in a collaboration between England and the Philippines by Derby Theatre and the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA).
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of O Meu Primeiro FITEI, we will be presenting a retrospective of Tiago Albuquerque's graphic work for O Meu Primeiro FITEI and, with great delight, A Minha Primeira Discoteca returns, with DJ Kitten and art workshops for the youngest.
In addition to the usual presence of Praça de Inverno at the Coliseu, the multidisciplinary fair where illustrators, booksellers, toy artisans and other artists exhibit their work, this will also take place at Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery, in a reduced version.
Join us in this celebration that we also want to be yours, a true intergenerational celebration, the glue that cities are made of and that we are fighting so hard not to lose. Long live O Meu Primeiro FITEI, long live art and culture!
